Agana PCG conducts a Gender and Development (GAD) Seminar and a Financial Education Workshop for Overseas Filipinos in Chuuk and Pohnpei, FSM
30 November 2024, Guam - The Philippine Consulate General in Agana, Guam conducted a Gender and Development Seminar and Financial Education Workshop for overseas Filipinos (OFs) in Chuuk and Pohnpei, Federated States of Micronesia (FSM) on 28-29 November 2024, respectively.
In observance of the 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women, Vice Consul Daniella Bianca M. Villamin-Oriondo conducted a Gender and Development Seminar in both Chuuk and Pohnpei, FSM, which focused on basic GAD concepts and raising awareness on R.A. 9262 or the Anti-Violence Against Women and their Children Act of 2004. Participants were also informed that the Consulate has an Anti-VAWC Desk readily available to provide assistance and support to individuals in need.
ATN-Economic Assistant Hossana P. Dela Cruz, likewise, conducted the Financial Literacy/Education (FinEd) Seminar/Workshop in both Chuuk and Pohnpei, FSM, as part of Post’s efforts to combat economic violence by promoting economic empowerment of OFs, especially women, through an interactive discussion on the linkages between migration and financial management.
There were around 114 participants, 63 male and 51 female, to the Seminar and Workshop conducted in FSM, who expressed their appreciation for these timely and essential training for OFs.
One participant remarked, “The workshop was fun and informative. Both VC Daniella and Ms. Hossana discussed and explained comprehensively the topics about GAD and Financial Education. We were being reminded of who and what we are as a person. And since we are not forever OFW we learned that we need to PLAN-SAVE-INVEST for our future. - Ms. Miriam Centeno.” END
