Agana PCG Conducts a Financial Literacy and Contingency Preparedness Planning Seminar for H1B and H2B Filipino Workers in Guam

13 December 2024, Guam - The Philippine Consulate General in Agana, Guam, in collaboration with the Migrant Workers Office-Los Angeles (MWO-LA), organized a Financial Literacy and Contingency Preparedness Planning Seminar for H-1B and H-2B Filipino workers in Guam. The Seminar took place on 07 December 2024 at the Micronesia Mall in Dededo, Guam.

In her remarks, Consul General Rosario P. Lemque underscored the importance of preparing financially for their future in the Philippines and emphasized the significance of investing in stable financial institutions, such as banks, SSS and Pag-ibig.

MWO-LA Labor Attache Macy Monique Maglanque presented on Contingency Preparedness Planning wherein she emphasized to the overseas Filipino workers the importance of being ready for any situation that might arise, and in particular, the changing political and socioeconomic climate in the places they are deployed in.

ATN-Economic Officer, Ms. Hossana P. Dela Cruz, on the other hand, conducted the Financial Literacy/Financial Education (FinEd) Workshop which is an introductory discussion on the realities that overseas Filipinos face in dealing with, and managing their financial resources. The approach of the Workshop is to tackle the financial concepts with consular/migration issues (i.e: the social costs of migration are discussed with the concepts of liquidity, risk behavior and inflation), aimed at promoting economic empowerment of OFs through an interactive discussion on the linkages between migration and financial management, and addressing the preparations for the eventual return of the OFs to the Philippines.

Around 200 participants composed of H-2B and H-1B workers from the various companies attended the event.

By introducing the concepts of planning, saving in accordance with their plans and investing in their financial future, it is hoped that the OFs who have attended the Seminar/Workshops will be able to reintegrate in the Philippines to make informed financial decisions, secure their future, and maximize the benefits of their hard work abroad.
